Local Business Matters - Midnight Janitorial Friday, February 19th, 2010 | Rochester Woman Magazine
by Lindsay FerrinFar from "business as usual", these are consumer referrals from a source you can trust. Local Business Matters is where to find the Rochester-area stores, shops and services that have distinguished themselves by going above and beyond expectations to deliver outstanding products, services and performance. Angella Luyk is the woman behind Midnight Janitorial, Inc., which is a commercial cleaning company founded on a commitment to provide the highest quality cleaning services to professional offices, buildings, and industrial plants. Midnight Janitorial is a state certified Women Owned Business. In 2007, it was a Rochester Business Ethics Award finalist, and won the award in 2008. In 2008, it was also named New York State Employer of the Year (one of five companies in 20 years to win from Rochester). If earning awards and recognition are any indication of how successful a person or business is, then Luyk and Midnight Janitorial are extremely successful; and all for a very good reason. This woman-owned and operated business quietly boasts a long list of achievements, all earned with hard work and dedication over time and upheld with pride every day. Most recently and notably, Luyk has been named a finalist for the 24th Annual Athena Award. In addition, she also earned an Up & Coming Businesswomen's Award at the 2009 Rochester Women's Network Summit. Midnight Janitorial is the 2009 winner of the American Business Ethics Award, as well as the 2009 winner of the New York State Small Business Development Center Growth Award. Luyk is not your typical woman, person, or business owner. As president and CEO of Midnight Janitorial, she runs her business on the premise that, "The Golden Rule" rules. She explains, "Treat people - your customers and your staff - the way you want to be treated. Everybody deserves to be treated with respect … and honesty is not just the best policy, it's the only policy." Cleaning 'crews' do not exist at Midnight Janitorial. Instead, Luyk sends her 'partners' to the jobs and they, as she says with conviction, "work with me as opposed to for me." Volunteerism is a vital part of the program at Midnight Janitorial, where the staff is encouraged to give back to the community. In addition to offering her employees opportunities to participate in local charities and fundraising events, Luyk herself volunteers as a mentor/speaker for Junior Achievement and sponsors many networking events designed to help other aspiring businesses to be successful. "The best part of what I do is seeing others do well and be successful," she says. "I consider myself a self-made woman and business owner, but I had good mentors and support from other successful people along the way," she says. "It's my way of returning You can enjoy the rest of the February Issue on our website ©2010, Rochester Woman Magazine, LLC. All Rights Reserved
